So Surreal

Finally a home decor post! We've accomplished alot in less than a month and so far I'm pretty pleased with how things are coming together. We are tackling one room at a time - it's more realistic that way. The living room/kitchen area are the first areas since those are the most used (kitchen pics to come!)

So onto decor. The space isn't huge for our living room but it's a nice size with an open concept feel. We have tons of natural light which is a bonus. I've always loved grey tones (sometimes in excess!) but now grey hues are on trend, so I can get away with it! The paint I am using is Behr "Surreal Blue". It's a beautiful medium grey tone with a soft blue undertone.

I've been waiting to do any sort of decorating because we just had our hardwood floors installed. I opted for darker floors because of the warmth it adds, then of course added a lighter area rug to break up the space.

I am still hunting for wall art and would much rather live with bare walls instead of hanging something up temporarily. I am thinking of an oval mirror above our chair (either white or brushed silver) and a large canvas print above the couch.

For the opposite side of the wall - that's just a work in progress. We are going to wall-mount our TV eventually to clear up the space and then add a long low profile tv stand underneth. We've purchased a used wood cabinet whch we plan on re-finishing in the Spring.

In the opposite corner, we have this awesome accent chair from Pier One. Again, this side of the room is unfinished so this chair is sitting solo. I'd like to add a lamp behind it or a small table beside it.

So that's it for now! I will go into further detail with the decorative pieces but I wanted to get something up!

Moving On Up

So, before anything else I want to point out the obvious that yes I have been totally MIA lately. As you may (or may not) know from one of my previous posts, I've been preparing to move. Well, after I published that I blinked and here I am, 3 days post-move. Time has gone by so quickly these past 3 weeks that it's all just a blur.

I've never lived on my own before. I've never even lived anywhere other than the house I grew up in. So moving into a new home in a new neighbourhood (only 20 minutes from my "old" stompin grounds) is quite the adjustment.

Buying a house came up for discussion in the Fall of 2011. After driving around neighbourhoods and searching for homes online we finally stopped by a sales centre for a new construction home. They didn't have model homes to walk through, just floor plans. Although it was a risk of not being able to see the actual home first, we found a  plan we loved and decided to buy. Now after a year and a bit of collecting things, buying new things and figuring out where everything will go, we have moved in!

Needless to say, I am enjoying the experience of moving into something that is totally mine. The most exciting part is being able to make this new house into my home. Decorating has always been a passion of mine and now I have 3 bedrooms and 3 washrooms of blank canvas to work with! I am looking forward to sharing it all with you! Right now, there isnt much going on except a mattress on the floor and a box covering our bedroom window. Oh yeah very trendy!
